Look In: What Does This Reveal About Me?

One reason this letter feels so personal is because most of us can identify with the church in Thyatira.

Few of us intentionally choose compromise. More often, we slowly become comfortable with things we once would have confronted. We learn to tolerate attitudes, habits, thought patterns, relationships, or influences that gradually pull us away from wholehearted devotion to Jesus.

Sometimes we tell ourselves we are being gracious. Other times we convince ourselves it is not a big deal. We may even believe we are preserving peace.

Yet Jesus reminds us that real love does not protect what is destructive. Grace gives us room to repent, but it does not give us permission to remain unchanged.

The invitation of this passage is not condemnation. It is honesty. Jesus exposes what is harmful because He desires freedom for His people. His correction is always an expression of His love.
